About the brand

Olay is P&G’s mass-market skincare brand and one of the largest beauty brands in China.

My role & ownership

Agency project lead orchestrating end-to-end creative campaign delivery across strategic development, film production, and multi-channel launch.

Pillar 1Global-to-local platform strategyDecoded the global Ageless platform from P&G into #No fear of age for the Chinese market, anchoring the communication in local consumer research on age-related social expectations.

Pillar 2Creative narrative & risk leadershipChampioned a creative concept built on an age-gap relationship, and navigated multi-tiered client approvals to carry a progressive narrative through intact for a brand that had never taken that position.

Pillar 3Creative ideation to film productionGuided the work from initial ideation and storytelling architecture through casting, budget management and on-set shoot supervision with directors and producers.

Pillar 4Multi-channel & regional alignmentSynchronised master asset delivery across PR and media agency partners, and supported the narrative framework as it scaled into the broader Greater China markets.

The ambition

Reconnecting an ageing legacy brand with modern Chinese women through shared emotional resonance.

Olay was facing perception fatigue in China, increasingly disconnected from the aspirations and the realities of younger female consumers. The ambition was to move past conventional beauty advertising and build an authentic emotional bond with contemporary women, on a message that matched what they were actually living.

The challenge

Localising an abstract global concept, and carrying a progressive narrative through multi-stakeholder consensus.

The project presented two hurdles at once. First, translating a concept as abstract as Ageless into a culturally specific idea that felt natural, empowering and urgent for Chinese women navigating intense societal timelines around marriage and career.

Second, taking a calculated creative leap during a pivotal brand transformation. Proposing an age-gap romance (姐弟恋), a relationship dynamic that was forward-thinking and drew intense public conversation, meant bringing diverse brand stakeholders to a bolder narrative stance and outside a long-established comfort zone.

The approach

Connecting product efficacy with emotional empowerment: fearless of age, defined on their own terms.

The insight & the product truth

Women wanted visible youthfulness because looking younger gave them the tangible confidence to defy age limits and pursue what they actually wanted. Anti-ageing efficacy supplied the functional proof; the brand supplied the emotional permission to say that age should not define what a life can hold.

The creative narrative

The platform launched with a flagship film portraying a woman in an age-gap relationship. Moving past her own hesitation with the confidence the product gave her, she steps into her choice of love and marriage. The message was unmistakable: skincare efficacy gives women the tangible confidence to break free from social timelines and follow their inner ambition.

From creative idea to full-scale launch

Led the creative evolution from concept pitching and script refinement through on-site film production, delivering the hero asset alongside integrated toolkits, and coordinating with PR and media partners to carry the narrative across the major digital and social platforms.

Ten million views, and a platform that scaled across Greater China.

Video views & cultural reach

Ignited organic discussion across the major social platforms and reconnected Olay with a new generation of younger consumers.

Platform
Scaled across Greater China

Established #No fear of age as Olay’s permanent brand platform in China, subsequently adopted and expanded across Hong Kong and Taiwan with tailored regional stories.

Breakthrough brand perception & cultural resonance

The launch film cut through conventional beauty advertising tropes and shifted public perception. Consumers connected with a bolder, culturally attuned Olay, one that stood with them against societal age pressures rather than merely selling an anti-ageing fix. The campaign generated tens of millions of views and heavy organic engagement, closing the emotional gap between the brand and younger women.

Enduring brand equity & regional scalability

The campaign set the strategic foundation for Olay’s multi-year brand turnaround. #No fear of age was institutionalised as the brand’s core equity platform in China and scaled across Greater China, serving as the narrative blueprint for localised spin-offs and storytelling iterations in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
